Stephan W. Smith
Company founder and native of the Washington D. C. area, Stephan W. Smith was educated at Shepherd College, the University of Nevada and the school of hard knocks. Mr. Smith started a one-person millwork shop in a small garage in 1981 in Gaithersburg Maryland. The early years included small commercial projects in the Washington D.C. market. In 1985 he moved the shop from Gaithersburg Md. to Manassas Va. The company continued to grow and started to use more advanced equipment and undertook more challenging projects. By 1997 Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork had outgrown the small facility they rented in Fauquier County and Purchased the current 30,000 sq. foot facility. Mr. Smith continues to be active in the business, and his professional activities include a long association with the Architectural Woodwork institute where he is currently serving on the National Board of Directors. He is a past National Board Member of the AWI Quality Certification Corporation.
Kirk S. Vetter
Executive Vice President – General Manager
Kirk started in the construction industry at the age of 13 working for his father’s General Contracting Co. as a laborer. After 9 years he had worked his way up to a Project Management position and spent the following 14 years working for several commercial General Contractor’s in the Washington, DC market.
In August of 2000, Kirk joined GCM as a project manager, managing GCM’s first national account and other large and detailed projects. Kirk continued as a Project Manager until August of 2006 when he became Vice President – Project Managers, managing 4 – 6 project managers and running special projects. Kirk became a Partner in the firm and was promoted in January 2009 to Executive Vice President – General Manager and is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the business. Kirk eceived his BS in Business Management in 1986 from Longwood College, VA and his Masters in Business Administration from Marymount University in1992.
Executive Vice President- Project Management
Jim is a native of Virginia and grew up in the Springfield area, he has over 20 years of experience in the architectural woodwork industry among his accomplishments, including a rare combination of hands-on experience in all aspects of architectural woodwork from his early beginnings working on the shop floor. He moved up to supervising installation crews and then to his current position, for the past 9 years, in project management. Jim is responsible for numerous innovations in our project management systems and procedures and assumed an ownership position with the firm in 2010. Jim is currently serving as Executive Vice President in charge of Project Management.
Executive Vice President- Sales/Estimating
Jeff has over 25 years in the Commercial & Residential Millwork Industry.
Jeff joined GCM in December of 2002 as a Project Mgr. In 2008 he became Estimating Mgr. where he implemented a standardized system for quoting and tracking methodology for forecasting that has increased efficiencies and profit margins within the company. In 2010 Jeff became an Owner/Partner in GCM and is currently Executive Vice President of Sales/Estimating. Jeff is currently looking at ways to help GCM become green friendly and plans on taking the Estimating department paperless by 2012 year end.
From 1988-2002, Jeff worked for Woodwork Mfg. & Supply in Hutchinson, KS where he started as an Inside Sales/Account Executive, then worked his way up through the Company as an Outside Sales Rep, Operations Mgr. to eventually become Vice President/Sales Manager. During his time at Woodwork Mfg. & Supply Jeff became involved with the Heart of America Chapter of AWI and served as President for the Kansas Building Industry Association in 2001-2002. Jeff has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Kansas
