Stephan W. Smith

Chairman and CEO

Mr. Smith is the founder of Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork and native of the Washington D. C. area. He was educated at Shepherd College, the University of Nevada, and the school of hard knocks. Mr. Smith started a one-person millwork shop in a small garage in 1981 in Gaithersburg Maryland. The early years included small commercial projects in the Washington D.C. metro area. In 1985 he moved the shop from Gaithersburg, Maryland to Manassas, Virginia. The company’s continued growth, use of more advanced equipment, and undertaking of challenging projects realized the need for a larger home. By 1997 Gaithersburg Cabinetry & Millwork had outgrown the small facility they moved to in Fauquier County Virginia and Purchased the current Campus they call home. The original 30,000 sq. foot facility quickly grew to over 75,000 sq. foot and keeps growing today.

Mr. Smith is active in the business, and professional organizations include a long association with Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI), and their National Board of Directors, where he has severed for many years. Mr. Smith is also a past National Board Member of the AWI Quality Certification Corporation.
